President Donald Trump intends to impose a 25 percent tariff on steel. America’s largest import partner is Canada, and he backed off his initial tariffs in exchange for next to nothing because the markets were in turmoil. If he moved forward with them it is would harm the Heartland disproportionately. ArcelorMittal Steel (Illinois), Nucor Steel (North Carolina with operations in Arkansas), U.S. Steel (Pennsylvania), Steel Dynamics (Indiana), and AKSteel (Ohio) are the largest importers in the United States. They’ll pay 25 percent more.
